The Ministry of Economy and Finance announced Wednesday that it has appointed Jang Jeong-jin (52), director of the public policy bureau, as its new spokesperson.

Jang graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in political science before entering public service through the 39th administrative licensing exam, building a career across key posts in fiscal policy and public administration.

At the former Ministry of Economy and Finance, Jang served as director of the fiscal strategy division, the feasibility review division, the fiscal soundness management division and the medium-term fiscal strategy division, and also headed the free trade agreement tariffs implementation division.

Jang is known for his strong foreign-language skills and gained international experience as minister-counselor at South Korea's OECD mission. Colleagues describe him as warm and approachable, earning him broad respect within the organization.

The ministry spokesperson position carries the rank of senior director at the first grade, and Jang will be promoted to that level with this appointment.
