A worker in his 70s died after being crushed by waste plastic while assisting with forklift unloading operations at a factory in Naju, South Jeolla Province.
According to South Jeolla Province police and the South Jeolla-Gwangju fire department, the accident occurred at around 6:23 p.m. Tuesday at a factory in Gongsan-myeon, Naju, when the man, identified only by the surname initial A, was pinned under waste plastic.
He was transported to a hospital in cardiac arrest but was later pronounced dead.
A had been standing beside a forklift, helping to unload a bundle of waste plastic weighing about 900 kilograms, when the load fell and struck him.
Police completed a preliminary investigation and transferred the case to the South Jeolla Provincial Police Agency's serious industrial accident investigation unit to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
