LG Electronics has launched a new FDA-cleared diagnostic monitor as it pushes to expand its B2B medical monitor business.

The new model measures 40 inches with a 21:9 aspect ratio and features a curved IPS Black panel, the company said Wednesday.

Its key selling point is the ability to consolidate the workload of three separate 3-megapixel monitors onto a single screen. A 3PBP (3 Picture By Picture) function divides the display into three zones, each showing a different video source simultaneously, eliminating the need to switch between screens.

A built-in KVM switch lets users control two PCs with a single keyboard, monitor and mouse — moving the cursor to the screen's edge switches between computers, and files can be transferred via drag and drop.

The monitor also includes a Focus View mode, operable with just a mouse and keyboard, that brightens a selected area of interest while darkening the rest of the image. A Pathology mode adjusts resolution and color rendering to bring out finer detail in cellular structures for specialized pathology image reading.

The calibration sensor that precisely manages brightness and contrast is detachable. The sensor tip retracts into the body during normal use so it does not obstruct the viewing area, and can be extended only when reading images or running performance checks.

Shim Seung-eun, vice president for clinical affairs at Catholic University's Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital and president of the Korean Society of Radiology, tested the monitor for about seven weeks. "The wide, bezel-free screen let me review multiple images far more efficiently," Shim said. "There was no sense of disconnection between panels, and the curved display provided an excellent reading environment."

LG Electronics' proprietary LG Calibration Studio Medical software also enables remote, centralized management of diagnostic imaging monitors across a hospital.

Lee Chung-hwan, executive vice president and head of LG Electronics' display business division, said the company would "continue to strengthen our FDA-cleared diagnostic monitor lineup and deliver differentiated customer experiences backed by overwhelming display technology in the B2B medical monitor space."
