Mungyeong City in North Gyeongsang Province held a preparedness briefing Tuesday for the 2026 Ulchi CPX, with Mayor Kim Hak-hong presiding over the session attended by about 50 people, including department heads and military unit representatives.

The briefing was organized to review each department's readiness and share the full scope of training ahead of the four-day nationwide exercise running Aug. 18 through Aug. 21.

During the exercise, the city plans to carry out drills across multiple areas — beginning with an unannounced emergency mobilization of civil servants, followed by operation of a wartime integrated situation room, real-time response tabletop exercises, discussion-based training on wartime issues, field drills and civil defense evacuation exercises.

On Wednesday, about 80 participants from six agencies — civilian, government, military, police and fire department — will conduct a joint anti-terrorism response drill at Jeomchon Station. The following day, a nationwide civil defense evacuation drill will be held alongside vehicle movement control exercises and a fire truck right-of-way drill.

This year, a pilot evacuation drill will also be held at the Mungyeong Senior Cultural Center to encourage active participation from residents.

"Please prepare so that our public officials approach this exercise with a sense of responsibility and in a fully combat-ready atmosphere, as if it were an actual wartime situation, so that we can immediately assume an emergency posture when a crisis arises," Mayor Kim said.
