Kim Do-gyun, former commander of the Army Capital Defense Command, has been nominated as a candidate for president of Kangwon Land.
The Kangwon Land board of directors approved the nomination at its 234th meeting, held Tuesday afternoon at the Emerald Room on the fifth floor of the Kangwon Land Grand Hotel.
The board also approved a plan to nominate Kwon Sun-hyeong, a standing director at the Geumcheon-gu Facilities Management Corporation, and Yoo Jeong-bae, former president of the Korea Coal Corporation, as vice president candidates, and Jang Gyeong-yeol, former head of the National Intelligence Service's Gangwon Province branch, as a standing audit committee member candidate.
The Kangwon Land president is appointed by the president of the Republic on the recommendation of the Trade, Industry and Energy minister, the supervising ministry, and serves a three-year term.
The standing audit committee member is appointed by the president on the recommendation of the Economy and Finance minister and serves a two-year term. The vice president is appointed by the head of the institution following shareholder meeting approval and also serves a two-year term.
The board also approved a partial amendment to the company's articles of incorporation and a director appointment plan, both of which will be submitted to the 34th extraordinary general shareholders meeting, scheduled for Aug. 26 at the Hione Palace Hotel.
The proposed amendment reflects revisions to the Commercial Act and includes measures to protect shareholder interests — among them the introduction of electronic shareholders meetings, tighter regulation of treasury shares, and an expansion of the number of audit committee members subject to separate election.
The board also discussed management issues, including a comprehensive plan for AI-based gambling addiction prevention and proactive treatment, set to be pursued as a follow-up to a presidential briefing last December.
