Yeungnam University of Science and Technology held a workshop on AI-based teaching methods and student psychological counseling Tuesday at the convention hall on the first floor of its Cheonma Square building in Daegu.

Organized as part of a junior college innovation support project, the workshop aimed to strengthen faculty members' ability to use generative AI tools and to deepen their understanding of students and counseling skills in response to a rapidly changing educational environment.

Co-hosted by the university's Teaching and Learning Center and Student Counseling Center, the event drew more than 70 faculty members.

The morning session focused on AI-assisted teaching. Kim Gyeong-tae, a lead instructor at IAM-R Company, delivered the first keynote on structuring course materials using an AI campus platform and practical applications for instructors.

The afternoon program combined further AI teaching content with sessions aimed at improving faculty understanding of students and counseling skills. A briefing covered outcomes from a student dropout-prevention initiative and key priorities, and participants discussed the university's approach to supporting students' adjustment to campus life and continued academic engagement.

Park Tae-gyeong, director of the Pumeun Counseling Education Center, then gave a lecture on understanding students and intervention strategies through real university counseling cases.

The final session featured a lecture by Jeong Mi-suk, director of the Korea Well-Lime Education Institute, on counseling techniques using tarot cards as a mediation tool.

University President Lee Jae-yong said he hoped the workshop would serve as an opportunity to enhance faculty members' course design and learning support capabilities while also strengthening their student counseling and guidance skills.
