Lotte Mart will hold its "Tongkeun Day" sale for five days from Thursday through Monday, offering discounts on a wide range of products — from family meal staples to everyday household essentials — during the Chuseok holiday period.

The sale coincides with the last of the three traditional "dog days" of summer, which falls on Thursday, and the retailer has lined up a selection of stamina foods for the occasion, including eel, watermelon, whole chicken and abalone. The flagship product is a whole grilled eel pack priced at 4,990 won. The item features a full eel grilled four times and basted with sauce four times. Since its relaunch on July 30, the first batch of about 40,000 eels sold out by Sunday.

Meat and seafood products are also on sale. A chilled domestic whole chicken will be offered at 50 percent off for L.Point members. Ten live Wando abalone will be available for 12,800 won ($9) after a seafood promotion discount and an additional 50 percent off for purchases made with a designated card. Chilled samgyeopsal and pork neck (per 100 grams) will be 50 percent off with a designated card, while Marble Nine Korean beef sirloin, stew cuts and bulgogi (per 100 grams, chilled) and chilled braised galbi (per 100 grams, imported) will be 40 percent off for L.Point members.

Seasonal fruit deals are also available. A freshly harvested watermelon from a well-known growing region (7 to 8 kilograms, whole) will be sold in limited quantities at 24,990 won. Non-destructive sugar-tested greenhouse Shine Muscat grapes (domestic, per bunch) will be available for 4,920 won with a designated card.

Prices on vegetables, processed foods and household goods have also been cut. Cucumbers (five per bag, domestic) will be sold for 3,592 won and GAP-certified eco-friendly shiitake mushrooms (300 grams per pack, domestic) for 3,992 won, both with Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs discount coupons applied. Ready-to-eat meal products will be offered on a buy-one-get-one basis.

In-app events will run alongside the sale. During the promotion period, the Lotte Mart & Super GO app will hold a random roulette event every day at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., giving winners discount coupons of up to 10,000 won.

Shim Yeong-jun, head of the promotions and marketing team at Lotte Mart & Super, said the retailer would continue to roll out value-driven discount events so customers can buy what they need without financial strain, even amid high prices.
