A story about comedian Jeong Beom-gyun rescuing a man who tried to jump into the Han River 13 years ago has resurfaced.

Monday's episode of the KBS2 comedy program "Maljasho" featured a special segment on parents and children, with actor Jeong Eun-pyo and his son Jeong Ji-ung appearing alongside MC Jeong Beom-gyun's parents.

Jeong's mother spoke with evident emotion, saying her son works hard and puts in great effort, yet people say he "coasts along" — something she finds deeply hurtful as his mother.

His father drew laughs when he said he was shocked at first by the negative comments online, but after reading more of them, he had to admit his son did seem to coast along.

The episode also brought renewed attention to Jeong's rescue of a person who had attempted suicide 13 years ago.

"It was a very long time ago," Jeong said. "About 13 years. It was early in my marriage."

His father, who was in the studio audience that day, said Jeong had never turned a blind eye to others even from a young age.

He also drew a laugh by adding, "He was lucky to have been walking by at that moment." Jeong's father currently serves as a pastor.

In April 2013, Jeong helped rescue a man in his 40s who was about to jump off Mapo Bridge into the Han River, acting alongside other bystanders.

At the time, Jeong said, "Even if someone else had been there instead of me, they would have done the same thing. It was just the right thing to do."
