Ulsan is targeting Malaysia and India to help local shipbuilding and marine equipment companies secure new sales channels and diversify their export markets.

The city, together with KOTRA's Ulsan office, is accepting applications through Aug. 28 from companies wishing to join the Malaysia-India Shipbuilding and Marine Trade Mission, which will travel to Kuala Lumpur and Chennai from Nov. 9 to 14.

India is expected to see growing demand for shipbuilding and marine equipment as its government pushes policies to develop the domestic shipbuilding industry, while Malaysia's expanding offshore plant sector is also driving demand for related equipment — making both markets attractive targets for Ulsan-based firms.

The trade mission will connect participating companies with buyers identified through advance market research and facilitate one-on-one export consultations.

Applications are open to small and medium-sized enterprises in the shipbuilding and marine equipment sector with operations in Ulsan. Interested companies can apply through the Ulsan Trade Support System at www.ultrade.kr.

Ulsan will evaluate applicants on local market potential, product competitiveness and the likelihood of buyer consultations, and will select a final group of 15 companies.

Selected companies will receive support covering buyer identification and matching, one-on-one export consultations, professional interpretation, and one-way airfare and travel insurance. The city also plans to provide follow-up support after the consultations to help participating companies establish local sales channels and expand exports.

"India and Malaysia are markets with strong potential for shipbuilding and marine equipment companies to expand their exports," a city official said. "We will do our utmost to ensure this trade mission leads to real business deals with local buyers."
