Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-dae received 6 million won ($4,230) worth of heatwave relief supplies from the Korea Local Administration Mutual Aid Association on Monday at the Ongi Warehouse of the Seoul Station Jjokbang Counseling Center.
The handover ceremony was attended by District Mayor Kim, Association Chairman Kim Ki-young and Seoul Station Jjokbang Counseling Center Director Yoo Ho-yeon, among others. A roundtable on protecting heat-vulnerable populations and strengthening public-private cooperation followed.
The donated goods, entrusted through the Yongsan Welfare Foundation by the association, will support residents of the Seoul Station jjokbangchon — a neighborhood of tiny, low-cost rooms — and heat-vulnerable people in the Namyeong-dong area. Items for jjokbangchon residents will be distributed through the Ongi Warehouse, a self-selection space where residents can choose the supplies they need.
"On behalf of Yongsan-gu residents, I sincerely thank the Korea Local Administration Mutual Aid Association for extending a helping hand to our most vulnerable during these difficult times," District Mayor Kim said. "The district will work closely with the foundation and those on the ground to provide administrative support and care so that vulnerable residents can get through this hot summer safely and in good health."
