Andong city in North Gyeongsang Province announced Monday that Lee Chi-heon has been inaugurated as its 36th deputy mayor and has begun his duties.

Lee was born in 1971 in Cheongdo-gun, North Gyeongsang Province. He graduated from Cheongdo Iseo High School, earned a bachelor's degree in public administration from Yeungnam University, and completed a master's degree at Kyungpook National University's Graduate School of Public Administration.

Lee entered public service in December 1990 through a Grade 9 open competitive examination at Cheongdo-gun, then transferred to the North Gyeongsang Provincial Government in December 2004. He went on to build broad experience in local administration, serving in the autonomous administration division and the policy planning office, among other posts.

He also served as head of the people's livelihood economy division, the materials and components industry division, and the administrative support division, gaining wide-ranging experience in regional economic affairs, industrial policy, and organizational management.

From January 2026, he led the province's Low Birth Rate War Headquarters, overseeing efforts to address the low birth rate and population policy.

"It is an honor to continue my public service in Andong, the spiritual and cultural capital of Korea, and I feel the weight of responsibility that comes with citizens' expectations and the duty to advance city governance," Lee said. "I will listen closely to the voices of citizens through field-centered administration and work to secure future growth engines and revitalize the local economy."
