Han Min-su, a Supreme Council candidate in the Democratic Party of Korea's Aug. 17 national convention, urged party leader candidate Kim Min-seok on Monday to provide concrete evidence for his claim of an "anti-Lee, splittist and Shincheonji three-way secret alliance."
Han, who is closely aligned with party leader candidate Jung Chung-rae, made the remarks on KBS Radio's "Jeongyeok Sisa" program Monday, saying Kim had yet to back up the allegation. "He needs to clarify whether Jung Chung-rae is actually connected to Shincheonji, and whether Shincheonji formed a three-way secret alliance and interfered in the Democratic Party's national convention," Han said. "Not a single piece of evidence has been presented."
Han also pushed back against Kim's characterization of the convention's core mission as "breaking the three-way secret alliance of anti-Lee forces, splittists and Shincheonji." "This is not a warning," Han said. "It is a claim that the three-way secret alliance has already infiltrated and taken shape within our convention. If so, he must prove it. He must provide the evidence."
"Who exactly are the anti-Lee forces? Who are the splittists in our party? And what kind of three-way secret alliance have they supposedly formed with Shincheonji? Shouldn't he make that clear?" Han added.
On the final stretch of the leadership race, Han framed the contest as "organization versus momentum." Acknowledging that Kim commands strong organizational support centered on incumbent lawmakers, Han expressed confidence nonetheless. "In a word, organization cannot beat momentum," he said.
With the Honam region and Greater Seoul seen as the key battlegrounds, Han said voters would judge "whether one has truly stood by the Democratic Party through hardship without leaving, and whether one has kept faith with both the president and party members" — an indirect jab at Kim's past record of leaving the party.
However, Han cautioned against the race growing too heated. "Making false claims against fellow comrades, fabricating nonexistent facts, or distorting the truth for personal gain — all of that should be restrained," he said. "Please observe the boundaries." He added that once the Aug. 17 convention concludes, the party would reunite as one team and work toward the success of the Lee Jae Myung government.
