Samsung Electronics has teamed up with Korail to launch a paperless train ticket service, allowing users to store mobile tickets in Samsung Wallet instead of receiving physical paper tickets.

Samsung Electronics said Monday it is introducing the paperless ticket service on Samsung Wallet in collaboration with Korail. It is the first mobile boarding pass feature of its kind in South Korea. Users can activate the service by agreeing to the terms within Samsung Wallet.

When a user pays for a train ticket at an offline counter at any Korail station using Samsung Wallet, a mobile ticket is automatically added to the app. Tickets purchased through Korail+, an integrated app for Korail and SR services that launched Monday, can also be added to Samsung Wallet via the "Add to Wallet" feature.

SRT trains will be rebranded as KTX-Sancheon starting Sept. 1 as part of a high-speed rail integration. Tickets for September departures onward will be eligible for addition to Samsung Wallet.

Samsung Electronics has also enabled users to process refunds for mobile tickets directly within Samsung Wallet.

Mobile tickets added to Samsung Wallet sync with the Calendar and Now Brief features on Galaxy devices, Samsung Electronics said. Customers can receive advance departure reminders and manage their travel schedules more easily.

Samsung Electronics said the paperless ticket service reflects its commitment to social responsibility through environmental protection and cost reduction. The company aims to minimize the issuance of physical paper tickets, cutting the social costs associated with ticket production and disposal.

Chae Won-cheol, executive vice president of Samsung Electronics' MX Business Division, said the company was pleased to have successfully implemented the paperless ticket service through its partnership with Korail. "We will not only continue to deliver convenience to customers in their daily lives, but also actively lead the realization of the values Samsung Wallet pursues — including expanding a paper-free lifestyle and protecting the environment," he said.
