The Democratic Party of Korea announced Sunday that Park Hyeong-ryong had been elected chair of its Daegu city chapter and Oh Jung-gi chair of its North Gyeongsang Province chapter.
The two new chairs were elected at the party's regular membership conventions for both chapters, held Sunday at the Interbulgo Exco Hotel in Daegu.
In the final tally combining ARS votes from rights-holding members and online votes from national delegates, Park received 50.74 percent and Oh 68.63 percent.
In his acceptance remarks, Park said the party would "actively leverage support from the central party and the government as the ruling party to show Daegu residents that the Democratic Party is a clear alternative," adding that he would "rally every resource to fight hard toward the goal of winning one constituency seat and two proportional representation seats in the next general election."
Oh, in his acceptance speech, thanked party members for "choosing hope for the Democratic Party in North Gyeongsang Province" and pledged to build a chapter that would "drive victory in the upcoming general election and the success of the Lee Jae Myung government, and emerge stronger on a solid foundation."
