Democratic Party of Korea lawmakers Lee Eon-ju, Lee So-young and Lee Hun-gi welcomed President Lee Jae-myung's order to review the government's proposed overhaul of individual savings accounts (ISA) and a bill to prevent share-price suppression, saying Saturday they would work to strengthen both measures during the National Assembly's deliberation process.
The three lawmakers had previously criticized the government's ISA overhaul proposal and publicly called for a review.
Lee Eon-ju wrote on Facebook that the government must honor its original promise to retail investors who were encouraged to open ISA accounts for long-term investment. "We cannot afford to lose their trust any further," she said.
She added that she was relieved and fully supportive of President Lee's decision to recognize the problem and take steps to correct it.
Lee So-young shared a news report on the president's order to review the share-price suppression bill and wrote, "We will fix this. The Ministry of Economy and Finance needs to get its act together."
Lee Hun-gi said he would do everything in his power to ensure the share-price suppression prevention bill, which he and Lee So-young jointly sponsored, passes the National Assembly. "I will be a guardian of the Kosdaq and a guardian of retail investors," he said.
