Seoul's Dongdaemun-gu, led by District Mayor Choi Dong-min, will continue offering a range of job training programs for residents in the second half of the year to strengthen their employment skills and expand hiring opportunities.
The district has launched a new training program for disability activity support workers, reflecting growing demand for personnel in the care and welfare sector.
Enrollment is open to Dongdaemun-gu residents who wish to work as disability activity support workers, with 40 spots available from Aug. 18 to Aug. 24. Participants who complete five days of job training along with a separate field practicum will receive a disability activity support worker certificate.
Security guard training, which ran in the first half of the year, will continue in the second half as well. The district is accepting applications from unemployed Dongdaemun-gu residents on a first-come, first-served basis, with 45 spots available from Monday through Aug. 24. Trainees will acquire the knowledge required for security work through a new recruit training course and earn a general security officer completion certificate.
The district will reserve 30 percent of enrollment slots in both programs for vulnerable residents to expand their access to employment. It plans to give residents facing economic or social hardships a chance to participate in the training and will provide job placement support upon completion.
In the first half of the year, the district ran job training programs for hospital escort managers, lifestyle support workers and security guards, with a total of 80 residents taking part — all of whom completed the courses. A post-training survey found that more than 90 percent of participants said they were satisfied with the programs.
"I hope this round of second-half job training will help residents build their employment skills and lead to real job opportunities," District Mayor Choi said. "We will continue to develop practical job training programs that make a genuine difference in residents' lives, and work toward building a vibrant Dongdaemun-gu."
