GS Retail has set a target of 380 billion won ($268 million) in operating profit by 2028, anchoring a push to strengthen profitability and improve asset efficiency.
The company disclosed its "2026 Corporate Value Enhancement Plan" on Friday, outlining a two-pronged strategy: restoring core retail profitability and raising asset efficiency, while reinforcing shareholder return policies.
The 2028 operating profit target of 380 billion won would represent an increase of more than 30 percent from 2025 levels. To achieve it, GS Retail plans to divest non-core investment shares and funds and liquidate underperforming store assets by 2028.
The company also laid out growth strategies and profitability improvement measures for its three main businesses — convenience stores, supermarkets and home shopping — to meet its medium- to long-term management goals.
Its convenience store chain GS25 will expand fresh-food-focused stores to sharpen store competitiveness and strengthen its product lineup through differentiated private-brand offerings and fresh food selections.
Its supermarket chain GS The Fresh will pursue sustained growth by strategically opening stores in prime urban commercial districts and tailoring its product mix to local market conditions.
The home shopping unit plans to build a profitability-driven business structure by expanding exclusive products and boosting synergies across TV, mobile and social media channels.
GS Retail also plans to roll out AI transformation and data-driven management across the entire company to sharpen operational competitiveness at its convenience stores and supermarkets, and to enhance personalized services in home shopping.
Efforts to improve returns on real estate and investment assets will be directed toward raising return on equity. Cash generated through these measures will be allocated with a view to improving the long-term shareholder return ratio, the company said.
"This corporate value enhancement plan is a medium- to long-term strategy to strengthen our core business competitiveness and build sustainable corporate value," a GS Retail official said. "We will continue to earn market trust by balancing profitability and capital efficiency, and by maintaining a predictable shareholder return policy."
