Gwangjin-gu is stepping up mobility support services for people with disabilities, operating 36 fast-charging stations for electric mobility aids and providing repair subsidies across the district.
Electric mobility aids — including powered wheelchairs and scooters — are essential for the daily movement and independence of people with disabilities. To support their use, the district has installed fast chargers at its 15 community service centers as well as major public facilities, including Jayang Han River Library, Gwangjin Arts and Culture Center and Gwangjin Citizens' Sports Center.
Chargers have also been installed at seven subway stations — including Achasan, Junggok and Children's Grand Park stations — along with three Jeonglib Hall locations, the Achasan Donghaeung Forest Trail observation deck and Konkuk University, allowing people with disabilities to recharge conveniently during outdoor activities.
The locations of fast chargers operated by Gwangjin-gu and all 25 other autonomous districts in Seoul, along with the number of devices that can charge simultaneously, can be checked on the Smart Seoul Map. The district will conduct regular inspections and repairs to prevent inconvenience caused by charger outages.
Alongside this, the district is running a repair subsidy program for electric mobility aids. Residents registered in Gwangjin-gu who hold a disability registration and own a powered wheelchair or electric scooter are eligible. Basic livelihood recipients and near-poverty households with disabilities can receive up to 300,000 won ($211) per year in repair costs, while other registered people with disabilities can receive up to 150,000 won annually.
Residents seeking repairs can apply at their local community service center, obtain a repair referral, and then choose from a list of designated repair shops that offer either on-site or in-home service. For further details, residents may contact the Gwangjin-gu Office's disability welfare division.
"Electric mobility aids are a vital means of connecting people with disabilities to their daily lives and social activities," district mayor Kim Gyeong-ho said. "We will continue to expand charging infrastructure and repair support services tailored to people with disabilities, so that Gwangjin-gu becomes a place where everyone can travel safely and conveniently, without any barriers to movement."
