Seoul's Nowon-gu will run the "2026 Nowon Education Cooperation Special District Parent Academy" to boost parents' capacity to support their children's education and strengthen ties between schools and the local community, District Mayor Seo Jun-o announced.
The Parent Academy is designed to deepen parents' understanding of their children's education and help build a learning environment shaped by both schools and the wider community. Three in-person lectures will be held at the Nowon Education Platform and Nowon Children's Library from August through September.
The lectures are tailored to parents' interests and the evolving education landscape. The first session, on Aug. 20 at the Nowon Education Platform, will be led by instructor Choi Nam-young on the topic "School Violence: What Parents Need to Know First," covering prevention strategies and response methods for keeping children safe at school.
The second lecture will be held at the same venue on Aug. 26. Instructor Yun Seong-un will address the theme "Resilience: The Strongest Force That Protects Your Child," exploring ways to help children overcome adversity and build the strength to grow through hardship.
The third and final session will take place Sept. 5 at Nowon Children's Library, where instructor Gang Dong-u will present "AI Literacy and Children's Education," introducing parenting approaches that help children develop the skills to use AI responsibly and effectively.
Any Nowon-gu parent may apply. Each of the first two sessions will accept around 35 participants, while the third will accommodate around 60. Registration is open on a first-come, first-served basis through Naver Forms.
Alongside the Parent Academy, the district is continuing a range of education cooperation projects that place parents at the center of the learning process. Its flagship initiative — "A Day Like a Gem," in which school parent associations plan and run their own distinctive activities — is participating in a record 23 schools this year, including elementary, middle and special education schools. A separate parent club support project has selected 18 teams to develop skills across fields including photography, crafts and AI education.
"We organized this academy so that parents, as key participants in education, can grow alongside their children and strengthen their educational capabilities," District Mayor Seo said. "We will continue to actively support the creation of a sustainable education community built on close cooperation among parents, schools and the local community."
