LS Electric held an inaugural shipment ceremony Wednesday for the G2, its next-generation power conversion system (PCS) for energy storage systems (ESS), at the DC Factory of its Cheonan plant in South Chungcheong Province, with Chairman Koo Ja-kyun in attendance, the company announced Thursday.

The G2, the first units of which shipped Wednesday, is a next-generation ESS PCS designed for global markets. Built on proprietary PCS design technology, it maximizes operational efficiency and space utilization, and is regarded as a core solution for battery-integrated ESS. The G2 also employs liquid cooling technology that improves heat management and durability compared with conventional air-cooled systems, enabling optimal power operation even in confined spaces.

The global ESS market continues to expand rapidly, driven by surging power demand from AI data centers and the broader rollout of renewable energy. The United States — home to the world's largest ESS market — is expected to reach 600 gigawatt-hours by 2030, fueled by growing AI data center power needs and infrastructure investment.

"The very fact that we manufacture and export ESS solutions — the heart of DC technology — from the world's first DC distribution factory positions LS Electric as a top global leader in the DC industry," a company official said. "We will now move in earnest to expand our market presence, leveraging proven technological reliability and quality competitiveness at the center of a mega-cycle driven by global power infrastructure expansion and the shift to a DC paradigm."

Meanwhile, Koo toured the G2-dedicated production line Wednesday, closely reviewing production plans and quality control status. He told employees on site that the Cheonan DC Factory is "the key forward base proving LS Electric's technological competitiveness across the entire DC ecosystem as the DC paradigm shift accelerates in earnest." He urged them to "secure firm leadership in the DC era and lead the global ESS market through flawless quality and perfect product manufacturing."

The Cheonan DC Factory, where the G2 is produced, is the world's first factory to run entirely on DC power distribution. It has demonstrated the real-world energy savings of DC distribution by raising the facility's overall energy efficiency by more than 10 percent.
