The Korea Tourism Organization is rolling out a series of targeted discount promotions this summer for participants in its worker vacation support program, aiming to ease vacation costs and boost regional tourism.
Under the program, a worker contributes 200,000 won ($136) to a travel fund, with their employer and the government each adding 100,000 won, bringing the total to 400,000 won for domestic travel. Workers can spend the accumulated funds on accommodations, admission tickets and travel products through the dedicated online platform "Huga Shop." The organization plans to introduce four discount promotions this summer to reduce the financial burden on participating workers.
This year, the organization expanded regional travel benefits through partnerships with local governments. Under an MOU signed with North Jeolla Province earlier this year, products in the province are available at up to 50 percent off — capped at 50,000 won — through Aug. 21. The promotion covers more than 2,000 wellness tourism and accommodation products tied to destinations such as the Gochang Healing Forest and Iksan Wanggung Forest. Through Sept. 23, the program will also offer up to 50 percent off — again capped at 50,000 won — on more than 50 admission and accommodation products at 25 recommended family-friendly destinations nationwide, broadening domestic travel options for workers.
A wellness accommodation discount promotion running through Aug. 14 offers reductions of up to 50,000 won at 140 wellness facilities. Through Aug. 28, leisure admission tickets — including those for water parks and amusement parks — are discounted by up to 20 percent, capped at 20,000 won.
Full details are available on the worker vacation support program's website and through the Huga Shop online store.
"We have put together these promotions so that workers can enjoy domestic travel without financial stress, taking advantage of a range of discounts during the summer vacation season," said Kwak Jae-yeon, head of the Korea Tourism Organization's domestic tourism support team. "We will continue to provide diverse support so that workers can have a fulfilling vacation anywhere across the country."
