Seongju-gun in North Gyeongsang Province visited Government Complex Sejong on Monday to meet Deputy Prime Minister Koo Yun-cheol, who also serves as minister of economy and finance, and request active government support for key local projects and pending issues.
Seongju-gun Mayor Jeon Hwa-sik urged the deputy prime minister to advance several priority projects aimed at building a sustainable growth foundation for the county — including increased funding for the Seongju melon facility modernization project, development of Seongju General Industrial Complex No. 3, and construction of an expressway along the east-west third axis connecting Muju, Seongju and Daegu.
The mayor also sought the government's attention and support for initiatives to boost the local economy and improve living conditions, including a Seongju-style rural basic income program, a recycling-based agricultural product circulation system, and maintenance of a circular landfill facility.
Deputy Prime Minister Koo said he would "carefully review Seongju-gun's key pending issues and proposed projects with the heart of someone who cares about their hometown, and spare no effort in providing broad support."
Mayor Jeon said he would "work closely with central government ministries and maintain ongoing communication to do everything possible to resolve pending issues and secure national funding, so that the key projects that will determine the region's future can be carried out in a timely manner."
