The North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency on Thursday formed a dedicated investigation task force in connection with an arson attack at an apartment management office in Gyeongsan, with the agency's criminal investigation division chief serving as team leader.

The 36-member task force includes investigators from the provincial agency's wide-area investigation unit and forensic science team, as well as detectives from the Gyeongsan Police Station.

At around 8:29 a.m. Thursday, a suspect identified only as A, a person in their 70s, set fire to flammable materials inside the management office of an apartment complex in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, leaving eight people — including the suspect — with burns.

One of the victims is in critical condition.

"We plan to analyze closed-circuit television footage from the scene and dashcam video from nearby vehicles, and to review statements from victims and other parties involved, in order to determine the motive and circumstances of the crime," a police official said.
