With this year's Trade Day approaching, the Korea International Trade Association is seeking companies that have set new export records and individuals who have contributed to trade promotion.

KITA will accept online applications for Export Tower awards and merit citations commemorating the 63rd Trade Day from Monday through Aug. 7.

KITA holds an annual Trade Day ceremony on Dec. 5 together with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The event presents Export Tower awards and merit citations to companies that have opened new overseas markets despite difficult external conditions, as well as to business leaders and employees who have contributed to trade expansion.

Companies with export earnings of at least $1 million are eligible to apply for an Export Tower award if their exports surpass the level at which they previously received the honor. The performance assessment period for this year runs from July 1 last year through June 30 this year.

The range of qualifying export activity is broad. In addition to direct exports, eligible performance includes service exports, electronic intangible exports, and indirect exports conducted through purchase confirmation documents and domestic letters of credit (local L/C).

Merit citations are open to executives and employees of exporting companies. A total of 10 award categories are available, including the Industrial Order of Merit, the Industrial Service Medal and the Presidential Commendation.

Applications can be submitted through the KITA awards website. The application system is linked to the websites of Korea Trade Network and the Korea Trade Statistics Promotion Institute, making it easier for companies to pull their indirect export records directly into the form.
