Gangnam-gu announced Monday that it will carry out emergency repairs on a 235-meter stretch between Samsung Station intersection and Hwimun High School intersection, as part of its campaign pledge to improve conditions along the Yeongdong-daero development corridor, including easing traffic congestion caused by ongoing construction.

The district completed the first phase of repairs June 10 and 11, resurfacing 123 meters of the most severely uneven sections within the 235-meter stretch. The remaining 112-meter section of Yeongdong-daero and the Teheran-ro segment near Samsung Station intersection will undergo three additional days of repairs through Wednesday, following coordination with relevant authorities.

The Yeongdong-daero underground space complex development project spans a roughly 1-kilometer stretch from Hwimun High School intersection to COEX intersection, divided into four construction zones. The section undergoing repairs falls within the fourth zone. Prolonged construction in the area has caused significant height variations across the road surface, leaving it riddled with bumps and uneven patches.

District Mayor Kim Hyeon-gi personally walked the stretch on July 2 to assess conditions firsthand, then called on the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the contractor to carry out prompt repairs. Both the city and the contractor cooperated actively, coordinating construction schedules and the scope of the work.

"I will practice hands-on administration throughout my term, paying close attention to even the smallest inconveniences residents face," Kim said. "I will make sure to fulfill every campaign pledge of the ninth elected term — energizing Gangnam and delighting its residents."
