Anyang city government said Thursday it has begun work on a new medium- to long-term road policy.

The city held a project kickoff briefing Wednesday at its electronic conference room, with Mayor Choi Dae-ho, relevant civil servants, transportation and urban planning experts, and contractor representatives — 16 people in total — in attendance.

The resulting "Anyang City Road Construction and Management Plan" is a statutory plan that will set the city's direction for road construction and management over five years, from 2028 to 2032. The city expects to finalize the plan by September 2027.

Priority reviews will focus on the feasibility and optimal alignments for key road network projects addressing local traffic issues — including building an arterial road within Manan-gu (connecting Bakdal-dong, Byeongmogan-dong, Yanghwa-ro, Naengcheon-ro and Sungkyul University), and improving wide-area traffic in Hogye 3-dong by opening a through road between Lucky Apartments and Geumjeong Station.

The plan will also set investment priorities and develop a financing strategy based on a comprehensive analysis of traffic demand, economic viability and fiscal conditions for each route.

Preemptive traffic measures will also be drawn up in response to the Pyeongchon new town redevelopment project.

The city will also explore ways to expand connector roads linking Anyang's urban core to surrounding wide-area transport networks, including the Hwaseong–Gwacheon expressway. Candidate routes under review include Mansu-ro (connecting Bakdal-dong and Anyang-dong) and a corridor linking the Bakdal bypass road to Bisan-dong.

Mayor Choi said the plan would serve as "a milestone for Anyang's road policy."
