Comedian Kim Sook has revealed she gained 8 kilograms within a month of quitting smoking.
A video posted Wednesday on the YouTube channel VIVO TV featured a segment in which viewers shared their most embarrassing moments.
In the video, Kim reacted to a viewer's story about gaining 10 kilograms in three months after quitting smoking. "I gained 8 kilograms within a month of quitting," she recalled.
She then described the physical toll of the rapid weight gain. "For the first time in my life, I got bruises on my arms," she said. "When you suddenly put on weight and wear something fitted like a suit all day, you get spiral-shaped bruises on the inside of your elbows. It's from the clothes pressing against the fat — red marks like lines. Anyone who's gained weight knows. You bruise like burst capillaries."
Kim said she had kept chocolates and candy on hand constantly to help her quit, adding that her appetite surged during the process. Normally weighing between 49 and 50 kilograms, she said cravings took over after she stopped smoking. "If that person only gained 10 kilograms in three months, they managed it well," she quipped, drawing laughter.
Kim and fellow comedian Song Eun-i then connected by phone with comedian Shin Gi-ru, and the conversation turned to the idea of opening a smoking-cessation school. "I used to smoke three packs a day," Kim said. "I know exactly when you feel the urge to light up. People like us are the ones who should be designing the program."
Shin said she was fully on board. "My appearance fee might not be much, but I'd even pay to be part of this program," she said, expressing her eagerness to enroll in the proposed school.
