By Park Jong-il, senior reporter Seoul's Yongsan-gu held a training session of the Yongsan-gu Community Social Security Council at the district office's main conference room on Wednesday to strengthen local welfare capacity and deepen public-private cooperation.
The Yongsan-gu Community Social Security Council — a consultative body with civilian co-chair Kwon Ki-yong — brings together public institutions, welfare agencies and social welfare facilities to address a wide range of local welfare challenges. It serves as a hub for connecting community welfare resources and identifying residents who fall through the cracks of the social safety net.
The session was organized to sharpen the expertise of council members and explore ways to invigorate operations, drawing about 50 participants from the working council and its subcommittees.
Held under the theme "Establishing the Development Direction and Defining the Role of Working Subcommittees of the Yongsan-gu Community Social Security Council," the event proceeded in two parts: capacity-building education, followed by sessions in which each working subcommittee set its own development direction and goals.
In the subcommittee goal-setting sessions, members discussed operational priorities and action items under the shared objective of "building a better life for district residents through public-private cooperation." The discussions helped reinforce the council's identity and broadened communication and collaboration among members.
Participants agreed to continue creating regular forums for public-private exchange and cooperation, pledging to work closely together to resolve diverse welfare challenges in the community and eliminate gaps in the welfare safety net.
District Mayor Kim Gyeong-dae said the session was a meaningful occasion for the public and private sectors to share the council's development direction and goals and further solidify their cooperative framework. "We will do our utmost to build a tight welfare safety net that leaves no resident in need behind," he said.
