Yeungjin University's Korean Language Education Center announced Tuesday that it successfully held the "Yeungjin Global Sharing Flea Market," an event designed to help international students settle comfortably into life in Korea and boost their motivation to study.
The event was held Tuesday in a classroom at the university's information building, drawing more than 260 international students enrolled in language training programs.
The flea market featured more than 1,000 items of practical use to international students — including clothing, cosmetics, small home appliances and everyday household goods — donated voluntarily by university faculty, staff and Korean language instructors.
The center ran a donation campaign from June 24 to July 10 to collect the wide range of goods on offer.
The center had been issuing "sharing coupons" to language program students each time they attended class. At the event, students used the coupons they had accumulated to choose items freely from display zones organized by coupon value, ranging from one to four coupons.
Cha Yong-du, director of the Korean Language Education Center, said the center would continue to run a variety of support programs aimed at raising students' academic achievement and fostering a positive image of the university and South Korea.
Yeungjin University currently enrolls more than 970 international students from 37 countries.
Students from China, Japan, the Philippines, Nepal, Vietnam, Mongolia, Uzbekistan and other nations study together, forming a global campus community.
