Ulsan has appointed Shin Min-sik, former head of the tax policy division at the OECD Korea Policy Centre, as deputy mayor for economy, and Choi Hyeong-jun, former vice chairman of the transition committee for the city's current elected administration, as chief political aide, both effective Wednesday.

Shin, an economic policy specialist who previously served at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the presidential secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will link Ulsan's key policy priorities to central government programs, national budget allocations and investment attraction efforts.

Choi, a native of Ulsan, has served as a senior aide to National Assembly members and handled budget, policy and legislative affairs at the central government level. In his new role, he will strengthen policy momentum by coordinating with the central government, the Ulsan City Council and civil society.

Through the appointments, Ulsan plans to integrate its economic and political functions, step up efforts to secure national funding, attract investment, deepen cooperation with the central government and improve communication with residents — with the goal of delivering results that citizens can tangibly feel.
