Guro-gu held an opening ceremony Friday for the Gaebong 3-dong Youth Cafe, marking the start of full operations at the new facility.
Located at 55-16 Gaebong-ro 11-gil, the cafe spans a total floor area of 346.58 square meters across the third and fourth above-ground floors. The youth-centered multipurpose space brings together areas for studying, relaxing, play and program activities under one roof.
The opening ceremony began with a congratulatory performance by local youth, followed by opening remarks, introductions of guests, a progress report, congratulatory speeches, the official opening ceremony, an unveiling and a commemorative photo session.
The opening ceremony was organized around six core competencies young people need to thrive in future society — creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, social-emotional development and career development — underscoring the cafe's role as a space that supports youth-led growth.
The third floor is designed for learning, communication and rest, featuring three zones: a study and self-development area, a collaborative space where friends can share ideas and work through problems together, and a lounge for relaxation and mental recharge.
The fourth floor supports creative activities and leisure, with a maker space for turning imagination into reality, a social lounge for spending time with friends, and an activity room where youth can explore their passions and talents.
Building on the opening, the district plans to steadily expand youth participation programs, including self-governance activities, club activities, peer-relationship programs, self-understanding programs and maker activities.
The Gaebong 3-dong Youth Cafe is open exclusively to young people and operates Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. It is closed on Mondays and public holidays.
"We hope this becomes a place where young people can freely learn, rest and grow through a variety of activities," Guro-gu District Mayor Jang In-hong said. "We will continue to expand policies and support so that youth can nurture their dreams and talents and grow up healthy."
