Seoul's Gangnam-gu announced Sunday it will run an eco-friendly produce support program for pregnant women and new mothers. This year, the district will provide 1,764 pregnant women with 240,000 won ($160) worth of eco-friendly produce per person annually.

Recipients pay only 20 percent of the purchase price. The program covers more than 130 product categories — including eco-friendly vegetables, fruits and livestock products, as well as animal welfare-certified goods and organic processed foods — though available items may vary by season. Orders can be placed up to four times a month, with each order ranging from 40,000 won to 100,000 won.

The program is open to women who are currently pregnant as of the application date or who gave birth on or after Jan. 1, 2025. Those already receiving support through public health center nutrition-plus programs or agricultural food vouchers are not eligible.

Applications will be accepted through the Ecoymall platform from 10 a.m. Monday to 6 p.m. July 26. People with disabilities, foreign nationals, and those without a mobile phone registered in their own name may apply in person at the Gangnam-gu local economy division or their neighborhood community center. Applications may close early if demand is high. The district will select recipients through a random lottery next month, and those chosen will be able to purchase eco-friendly produce through Dec. 15.

"Looking after the health of pregnant women and children is the starting point for building a healthy community," District Mayor Kim Hyun-gi said. "I hope this support helps expectant families eat well and, through greater consumption of eco-friendly produce, also gives a boost to farmers."
