Seodaemun-gu announced Friday that it has completed construction on the section of the Inwangsan Eumgil trail near Gaemi Village in Hongje 3-dong — the first phase of its 2026 trail development project — and is pressing ahead with its barrier-free green network.
Of the 410 meters planned for this year, the district has finished a 110-meter stretch, laying a barrier-free wooden deck walkway along the route.
The steep, rock-strewn slope of Inwangsan, long difficult to navigate on foot, has been transformed into a step-free ramped path accessible to everyone — including wheelchair users, stroller-pushing parents and people with limited mobility.
The newly completed section goes beyond a simple walking trail. It draws attention as a multi-purpose wellness space where visitors can enjoy nature in a variety of ways.
A new observation deck has been installed, offering an unobstructed panoramic view of the city. Outdoor tables and rest chairs have been placed there so visitors can relax while taking in the scenery.
The path connects naturally with the nearby Inwangsan Children's Forest Experience Center, making it easy and safe for families with young children to visit both in one trip.
In addition, a 30-meter barefoot track and outdoor tables have been set up to create a small wellness area where residents can combine light exercise with rest as part of their daily routine.
The district plans to proceed without delay with detailed design work and follow-up procedures for the remaining 300-meter section near the Muakjae Sky Bridge in Hongje 2-dong, subject to budget availability.
The project has already completed 1.21 kilometers between 2022 and 2025, with 0.41 kilometers added this year and a further 1.88 kilometers still to come. Once the full 3.5-kilometer route — running from Ansan through the Muakjae Sky Bridge, Inwangsan and the area near Okcheonam — is complete, it is expected to stand as one of Seoul's signature barrier-free green corridors.
"The completion of the Gaemi Village section is meaningful because it secures mobility rights for people with limited walking ability and provides an urban retreat equipped with an observation deck and a barefoot trail," district mayor Park Woon-ki said. "We will continue to manage the remaining Eumgil construction carefully so that everyone can fully enjoy the benefits of nature."
