Prime Minister Han Seong-sook visited the Goyang Changneung district in Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province on Thursday, calling on officials to ensure housing in the 3rd-generation new towns is delivered on schedule.
Han received a briefing on major housing supply policies and the progress of the 3rd-generation new town projects, and said rapid supply is the single most important factor in stabilizing the Greater Seoul real estate market.
She also urged officials to ensure that key infrastructure directly tied to residents' quality of life — including transportation, education, electricity, water and sewage, and district heating — keeps pace with housing construction without delay.
Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kim Yun-deok, who accompanied the prime minister, said the ministry would concentrate all its resources on accelerating the projects through regulatory improvements and close project management, given the critical role the 3rd-generation new towns play in metropolitan housing supply. Kim added that the ministry would strictly enforce worker safety and building quality standards at construction sites during the monsoon season.
The Goyang Changneung district is a large-scale residential development site in the western reaches of the Greater Seoul area. Land compensation procedures have been completed and housing construction is now underway.
