Nowon-gu District Mayor Seo Jun-o launched the "2026 Woori Nowon Hope Summer Sharing Campaign" at a ceremony Thursday afternoon at the main auditorium on the second floor of the Nowon-gu district office, rallying support for a culture of community giving.
The Hope Summer Sharing Campaign is a year-round participatory initiative led by the Seoul Community Chest of Korea and co-organized by the Nowon Education and Welfare Foundation. It carries out a range of charitable activities aimed at helping residents vulnerable to extreme heat get through the summer in good health.
About 120 people attended the launch, including representatives from the Seoul Community Chest of Korea, social welfare workers and volunteers. Following the ceremony, participants signed an agreement for the "2026 Community Safety Net Support Project," which provides emergency assistance to low-income households. Seoul Dongbukbu Yeongung Sidae — Nowon-gu's first registered donor — then presented a donation, adding to the spirit of the occasion.
District Mayor Seo then joined representatives from 19 welfare organizations to assemble heat-relief care packages, each containing a cooling mat, a summer blanket, a portable fan and a 14-inch electric fan. The 500 packages assembled that day are to be delivered to 500 low-income and vulnerable households in the district.
"Extreme heat poses serious hardship for neighbors who fall through the cracks of the welfare system, so it is vital that the community comes together to check on one another and offer real, practical help," Seo said. "We will continue to do our utmost to build a tight-knit public-private welfare safety net so that every resident of Nowon-gu can have a safe summer."
