Purme Foundation partnership brings barrier-free performance to families

Participatory classical concert offers connection and cultural experience

Volvo Car Korea hosted a participatory classical concert for families of children with disabilities in partnership with the Purme Foundation.

The company announced Thursday that it held the "Robocar Poli Orchestra: Instrument Rescue Team of Vroomstown" performance at Modu Arts Theater in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, for families of children with disabilities.

The event was organized as part of both organizations' corporate social responsibility efforts supporting the rehabilitation and independence of children with disabilities. The show combined familiar Robocar Poli characters with live piano, cello and violin performances in an interactive classical concert format. Children took an active role through applause, movement and cheering, helping bring the show to life.

The event ran for two showings, with 120 families of children with disabilities invited to each, for a total of 240 families. The venue was made fully accessible so that children who use wheelchairs and their families could enjoy the performance without restriction.

Lee Yun-mo, president of Volvo Car Korea, said the event was prepared "with the hope that families of children with disabilities would create a harmonious memory together with Robocar Poli on a joyful summer day." He added that the company would "continue to support freedom of movement and everyday life so that children and young people with disabilities can connect more freely with the world, and carry on activities that contribute to the local community."

Volvo Car Korea has partnered with the Purme Foundation since 2017 to support programs for children and young people with disabilities. To date, the company has donated a cumulative 2.7 billion won ($1.79 million) to a disability-tailored assistive device support project, providing equipment to about 900 children and young people with disabilities, while also supporting the operation of a children's rehabilitation hospital and organizing family invitation performances.
