Geumcheon-gu said it will conduct a series of community outreach visits to all 10 neighborhood community centers from Monday through July 24, under a program titled "Opening the 9th Elected Term Together with Residents," marking the launch of the ninth elected term under District Mayor Choi Ki-chan.
The visits mark the first official on-site outreach since the start of the ninth elected term, organized to examine key issues in each neighborhood firsthand and incorporate residents' opinions into district administration.
Choi set "A Vibrant Geumcheon Together with Residents" as his governing goal for the ninth elected term, consistently emphasizing a grassroots approach centered on "action over words" and "the field over the desk." On his first day in office, he personally inspected community complaint sites and flood-preparedness conditions, taking the first steps toward field-centered administration.
During each neighborhood visit, Choi encourages staff at the civil affairs office before holding a tea talk with heads of vocational organizations to share local concerns. He then joins a samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) sharing event organized by the Saemaul Leaders Geumcheon-gu Women's Association to check on the well-being of vulnerable elderly residents and spend time with the community.
The visits proceed in the following order: Siheung 5-dong on Monday, Doksan 3-dong on Tuesday, Siheung 3-dong on Wednesday, Siheung 2-dong on Thursday, Siheung 4-dong on Friday, Doksan 4-dong on July 15, Gasan-dong on July 16, Siheung 1-dong on July 22, Doksan 1-dong on July 23, and Doksan 2-dong on July 24.
At the first stop, Siheung 5-dong, Choi held a tea talk with residents to hear everyday concerns including safety issues in vulnerable areas and discuss possible solutions. At Doksan 3-dong, he visited the community center's fitness facility to review ways to promote recreational sports, then read books to children at the neighborhood's small library, continuing a cross-generational outreach effort.
"I will visit all 10 neighborhoods in person with the belief that the answers lie in the field, listen to residents' voices and actively reflect them in district administration," Choi said. "As a lifelong Geumcheon native who has been part of this community for 60 years, I know this area better than anyone. I will resolve everyday inconveniences one by one and pursue field-centered administration that delivers change residents can feel."
The district said it plans to carefully review the residents' opinions gathered during the neighborhood visits with relevant departments and incorporate them into district administration and the development of lifestyle-focused policy.
