Gangnam-gu (district mayor Kim Hyeon-gi) will offer a free special lecture series titled "Summer Vacation Grade-Boosting Action Plan" for eighth-grade students through its online education platform Gangnam Ingang, starting Monday.
Gangnam Ingang incorporated findings from a recent survey of 788 middle school enrollees into the lecture's design. While 90.1 percent of respondents said the platform had helped them improve their grades, many cited difficulties studying on their own — particularly in setting up a study schedule, grasping core concepts and working through problems. Students also said they turn to Gangnam Ingang to fill gaps when working through textbooks and to review material quickly before exams.
The district developed the special lecture series to address those concerns directly, offering guidance on how to build a summer vacation study plan and adopt a structured approach to learning.
Eighth grade is a particularly demanding year, as the volume of material increases and competition over school records begins in earnest. The district designed the series specifically for eighth graders, recognizing that how students structure their learning during the break will significantly affect their second-semester performance.
The lectures go beyond general study tips, focusing instead on practical, hands-on learning guides. They lay out subject-by-subject strategies for Korean, English, math, social studies and science — covering how to prioritize topics and make the most of textbooks. Students will also learn how to build 2-day, 16-day and 4-week study schedules for the summer break, and how to connect concept review, problem-solving practice and exam preparation into a coherent whole.
The series makes active use of textbooks students already rely on. Study sequences and usage tips are organized around widely used titles from major publishers — including Gaenyeomwonri, RPM, O2, Check Check, Allsso and Xistory — so students can apply what they learn immediately after watching.
Alongside the lecture launch, an enrollment event will run through Aug. 12. Participants can sign up for a course of their choice and submit a summer study plan or a review of what they expect from the series. A draw will award mobile gift vouchers and other prizes to 100 winners.
"Summer vacation is a critical window for preparing for the second semester, and students need support to ease the sense of being lost when studying on their own," district mayor Kim said. "I hope this lecture series helps middle school students build a study plan that works for them and grow more confident in their learning."
