Hyundai Department Store announced Wednesday that it has topped the department store category of the National Customer Satisfaction Index, administered by the Korea Productivity Center, for five consecutive years.

The NCSI is an annual customer satisfaction index published by the Korea Productivity Center. Hyundai Department Store was recognized for a range of retail competitiveness initiatives built around customer hospitality.

The company recently launched "Service Project 101," a program through which frontline store employees propose ideas for improving customer service and identify areas for improvement.

Hyundai Department Store also operates a "Customer Happiness Insight Committee" to incorporate customer feedback into its services. It has additionally developed its own in-house metric — the SAI (Service hArmony Index) — which measures store service quality from the perspective of visiting customers.

The company continues to expand its ESG management efforts. A flagship initiative is the "365 Recycle Campaign," a customer-participation resource-circulation program. Last winter, it collaborated with an outdoor brand to produce upcycled down vests made from collected padded jackets. It also ran a "1 for 1" campaign in which a donation was made for every item a customer purchased.

Hyundai Department Store has also broadened the scope of its resource-circulation activities. Working with HD Hyundai Oilbank, it established a "Vinyl to Vinyl" process that recycles waste plastic film into waste-collection bags. Through the initiative, a cumulative 200 tons of waste plastic film was transformed into 400,000 plastic bags, which were distributed free of charge to community centers in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and the Incheon Songdo Green Camp Music Festival, among other recipients.

The company's eco-friendly activities have also been recognized by the government as carbon neutrality practices. Customers who participate in Hyundai Department Store's environmental programs can earn not only the store's own rewards but also the government's carbon neutrality points.

"We will continue to strengthen our culture of customer hospitality, drive innovation in the customer experience, and advance our ESG management to establish ourselves as South Korea's leading lifestyle platform," a Hyundai Department Store official said.
