GS Shop, the home shopping channel operated by GS Retail, said Wednesday it is expanding its summer product lineup to include sunglasses, sandals and rayon underwear, among other seasonal items.
Orders in the sunglasses category rose 214.2% year-on-year from March through June this year. GS Shop also expanded broadcast airtime for the category by 115.1% compared with the same period last year.
Demand is growing for photochromic sunglasses — lenses that darken in response to ultraviolet light outdoors while doubling as blue-light-filtering glasses indoors. A broadcast of the "Supportlight Photochromic Sunglasses" on Sunday generated 480 million won ($314,000) in orders. GS Shop will introduce the "Vera Wang Photochromic Sunglasses" on Thursday.
Sandal demand is also rising. Core Authentic, a brand that has expanded into accessories, debuted a strap sandal on June 19 and recorded 370 million won in orders in a single broadcast. Functional underwear has shown similar momentum. UBGS, GS Shop's in-house underwear brand launched in May, accumulated roughly 900 million won in orders within two months, with cumulative sales surpassing 130,000 units.
GS Shop will run "Lucky Seven Super Week," a summer underwear promotional event, from Monday, July 13 through Aug. 7. The event covers more than 700 underwear products that proved popular with customers in the first half of the year, offering various discounts and reward-point bonuses based on purchase amount.
