Yeongdeungpo-gu (district mayor Cho Yu-jin) will host two free music performances at Yeongdeungpo Art Hall to mark the arrival of summer, offering residents a refreshing cultural experience at no charge.
The concerts are the regular recitals of the Yeongdeungpo District Women's Choir and the Yeongdeungpo Volunteer Orchestra, and are open to all.
The first event, the choir's 19th regular concert — "Bidding Farewell to Spring, Welcoming Summer" — takes place Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Founded in 2008, the choir has performed at its annual recital as well as various local festivals and events each year, serving as a cultural ambassador for the district.
The program centers on the themes of love and the seasons, featuring choral art songs alongside familiar pop hits including K.Will's "Love Blossom" and Kim Gun-mo's "Rain Falls on a Sleepless Night." Special guest performances by pop-opera singer Choi Yong-ho and violinist Oh Bit-na will round out the evening. The concert runs approximately two hours.
Then on Saturday at 5 p.m., the Yeongdeungpo Volunteer Orchestra presents its 13th regular concert, "Do You Like Brahms?" The orchestra is a civic ensemble made up of Yeongdeungpo residents and workers employed in the district, dedicated to sharing musical talent with the local community.
The program features two landmark works by the Romantic master: the Double Concerto for Violin and Cello in A minor, Op. 102, and Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68. A professional concert guide will provide commentary throughout, making the performance accessible and engaging even for first-time classical music listeners.
Both concerts run approximately two hours. No advance reservations are required — tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at Yeongdeungpo Art Hall on the day of each performance, and any resident who loves music is welcome to attend.
"I am grateful to the members of the Yeongdeungpo District Women's Choir and the Volunteer Orchestra for preparing such beautiful performances for our residents," district mayor Cho said. "I hope this becomes a special occasion for families, friends and neighbors to enjoy music together and create lasting memories during the hot summer."
