Yeongcheon in North Gyeongsang Province has been selected as one of five pilot municipalities for a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport project to develop and demonstrate an AI-based integrated permit pre-screening service, the city announced Tuesday.
The project is part of the pan-government "AI Top 10 Public Welfare Projects" initiative.
The system uses AI to analyze complex laws and local ordinances, assess in advance whether various permits can be granted, and provide comprehensive guidance on required procedures.
Applicant municipalities were evaluated on objectivity, fairness and feasibility through project briefings and interviews with permit officials. Yeongcheon, Gyeongsan, Asan, Eumseong-gun and Incheon's Gyeyang-gu were ultimately chosen as the five pilot sites.
"The system is set to complete development consultation and on-site verification at the pilot municipalities by December, with full operations expected to begin at the five sites in early 2027," a Yeongcheon city official said.
