The Seocho-gu Council, chaired by Yoo Ji-woong, has completed its leadership formation by electing standing committee chairs, formally launching the first half of its 10th Assembly term.
At the second plenary session of the 350th extraordinary session Monday, the council elected Kim Hae-bareun as chair of the steering committee, Park Mi-jung as chair of the administration and welfare committee, and Shin Jeong-tae as chair of the fiscal and construction committee, concluding the extraordinary session's agenda.
Particularly notable is that the 10th Seocho-gu Council — despite a closely divided chamber of nine People Power Party members and eight Democratic Party of Korea members — unanimously elected its speaker, deputy speaker and all standing committee chairs with all 17 lawmakers in agreement, a first in the council's history.
The outcome would have been impossible without strong mutual trust and close cooperation between the two parties and among individual lawmakers. It carries significant meaning as a sign that the 10th Assembly chose cooperation and coexistence over partisan interests from the very start of its term.
Park, newly elected chair of the administration and welfare committee, said she would "communicate sincerely and work together with fellow lawmakers in a humble manner for the residents of the district." Shin, elected to lead the fiscal and construction committee, said he would "never lose sight of his original resolve, always listen carefully, and devote himself to legislative work so as to be of genuine help to fellow lawmakers until the end of his term." Kim, elected steering committee chair, said he would "actively support each lawmaker in carrying out their duties smoothly and do his utmost to serve as a bridge for communication and harmony among members."
