The North Jeolla Provincial Police Agency's regional crime investigation unit will take over the probe into the death of a woman in her 20s who worked as a radiographer at a general hospital in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province.

The provincial police agency said Tuesday it made the decision after weighing the importance of the case and the need for a swift investigation, among other factors.

The Gunsan Police Station, which handled the initial investigation, is set to hand over case materials to the regional crime unit.

"We will uncover the truth through an objective and prompt investigation, leaving no allegations unresolved," a police official said.

The woman, identified only by her surname initial A, was found dead in a flower bed outside an apartment complex in Gunsan on June 29.

A had been working at the hospital on a contract basis since early June and had recently told people around her that she was experiencing workplace harassment.

"Her cousin said that two days before, she had been in tears in front of the shoe cabinet, saying she didn't want to go to work," her family said. "We understand she also told her friends she was having a hard time."

The hospital said it is working with an outside labor consultant to determine whether A had in fact been subjected to workplace harassment.
