Shinhan Bank President Jeong Sang-hyeok urged employees Tuesday to remember the bank's founding spirit as it marked its 44th anniversary, saying they must never forget the customers who made Shinhan what it is today and must always hold onto the earnestness and resolve that drove its creation.

The bank held an anniversary ceremony that morning at its headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, attended by about 100 people including Jeong and other executives and head-office staff. In his address, Jeong said Shinhan Bank had set customer satisfaction as its foremost value from the very beginning, with the ambition of bringing a new wind to Korean finance, and called on employees to keep that founding mindset alive.

The bank is also running customer events to mark the occasion. Through its mobile platform Super SOL, it is holding a discount coupon event in partnership with the food-delivery app Ddaenggyeoyo, and through tie-ups with a health platform it is offering customers the chance to earn Shinhan points and access a digital cognitive-function screening program called "Gieokkok-kok" through the "Shinhan 20+ Run" and "Shinhan 50+ Walk" events.

Programs for employees and their families have also been arranged. Chef Yun Nam-no, who appeared on the Netflix show "Culinary Class Wars," presented a special menu that day, while Shinhan SOL Re Mi O — a music ensemble made up of performers with developmental disabilities — gave performances in the main lobby during the morning commute, lunch hour and evening commute. During the anniversary week, the bank plans to run a range of programs for employees and their families, including a Seoul National University campus tour for employees' children.

Shinhan Bank is also holding an untact running and plogging event called "Shinhan Saessak RUN" from June 29 to July 11. Combining employee entry fees with matching donations from the bank, the event aims to raise a total of 100 million won ($64,900), which will be donated to seven recipients aligned with the bank's founding philosophy of "7B (Bank)," including firefighters, national merit recipients and multicultural families.

<style ref="s1">The 7B founding philosophy was put forward by the late honorary chairman Lee Hee-geon, who established Shinhan Bank as a two-branch institution. It sets out seven aspirations: a bank for the nation, a bank for the public, a bank of mutual assistance, a trustworthy bank, the most convenient bank, a bank in the world, and a bank for the younger generation. These are distilled into three core values: public responsibility, customer-centricity and pioneering the future.</style>

"We have prepared a range of programs to express our gratitude to the customers and employees who have shared in Shinhan Bank's growth and development over 44 years," a bank official said. "Going forward, we will continue to fulfill our social responsibilities and advance as an even more trusted bank, grounded in the founding spirit of putting customers first."
