Yeungnam University of Science and Technology signed a memorandum of understanding with the Daegu-North Gyeongsang Federation of SME Convergence on Thursday at the university's Cheonma History Hall to promote AI-driven industry-academia cooperation.

The agreement aims to strengthen regional industrial competitiveness by linking the university's educational capabilities with practical industry experience and corporate networks, as AI technology becomes a decisive factor across industries. The two institutions also seek to cultivate AI-integrated talent capable of leading future industries.

The signing ceremony was attended by Yeungnam University of Science and Technology President Lee Jae-yong, Vice President for Academic Affairs Kwon Ki-hong, Planning Director Lee Jong-rak and Career Support Director Seong Geum-gil, as well as federation Chairman Yun Ju-yeong, Secretary General Choe Gyeong-geun and Team Leader Choe Seong-yong.

Under the MOU, the two institutions will jointly pursue industry-academia cooperation related to a government support project for colleges focused on AI transformation, develop industry demand-based customized curricula, provide technical problem-solving support for businesses, strengthen AI and digital capabilities for employees at member companies, and share university facilities and infrastructure.

Yeungnam University of Science and Technology has been pursuing educational innovation in line with the government's AI and digital transformation policy, aiming to develop skilled technical talent to lead future industries.

The university is particularly focused on building an AI-based learning environment, operating industry-tailored curricula and expanding company-linked projects, so that students gain hands-on industry experience while enrolled and are ready to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation.

"Through this agreement, we will do our utmost to actively support the AI and digital transformation of local small and medium-sized enterprises and to develop AI and digital professionals who can step directly into the workplace," President Lee said.
