A man in his 50s stabbed and killed an acquaintance on a street in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, then wounded himself in an apparent act of self-harm and is currently undergoing surgery.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Seongnam Jungwon Police Station is investigating the incident, in which the suspect, identified only as A, stabbed a woman in her 60s, referred to as B, on a street in Sangdaewon-dong, Jungwon-gu, Seongnam, at around 3 a.m. Saturday. The two were acquainted.
B was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead. A attempted to harm himself immediately after the attack and remains in surgery.
Police plan to arrest A on murder charges and question him once he has recovered.
"We have not yet confirmed how A and B knew each other or what the motive was," a police official said. "Detectives stationed at the hospital will assess A's condition and question him as quickly as possible."
