BTS has been named an "honorary distinguished guest" of La Plata, the Argentine city where the group will perform this October.

Big Hit Music said Wednesday that the city council of La Plata, the capital of Buenos Aires Province, unanimously passed a resolution on July 2 (local time) designating BTS with the title at its regular session.

"Honorary distinguished guest" is the highest official honor conferred under La Plata's municipal ordinance, awarded to distinguished visitors and internationally recognized figures in culture and the arts.

The council said it selected BTS in recognition of the group's cultural impact on the global music market, as well as its international activities promoting youth rights and the arts.

Local outlet Infocielo highlighted the unanimous vote as exceptional, citing BTS's global influence.

According to the outlet, La Plata Mayor Julio Alak has been mobilizing city-wide support ahead of the concerts — reviewing security and traffic systems in preparation for large crowds and coordinating accommodation regulations with the hotel association.

BTS will perform their world tour "Arirang" at Estadio Único de La Plata (La Plata Stadium) over three days — Oct. 21, 23 and 24 — marking the first time a Korean artist has performed at the venue.
