Donghae, which has been waging its own war on price gouging long before the central government took up the issue and has kept summer resort prices stable for years, is again deploying every tool at its disposal this summer to achieve zero price gouging.

The city will operate a situation room, dispatch inspection teams and conduct real-time monitoring — responding immediately and strictly to any violations.

From July through the end of August, Donghae will run a comprehensive price-stability situation room targeting six major summer resort areas to prevent gouging on key items including accommodation, restaurants and beach equipment rentals. A joint price inspection team — drawing on the city, consumer groups, police and tax authorities — will conduct intensive checks on prices around the resort areas.

The city plans to continuously monitor price trends for key items and to issue immediate corrective orders for any violations, including failures to display posted prices and the collection of improper charges.

Inspectors will also conduct on-site checks on whether prices are properly posted and fees are being managed appropriately. The city plans to focus on nine sectors across four areas — food, services, commercial order and festival order — to establish sound trading practices.

Donghae will also operate a price-gouging reporting center, taking swift action on complaints according to the type of violation. Joint inspections with relevant agencies and ongoing campaigns to stabilize summer prices and prevent consumer harm will continue, with the aim of creating a tourism environment where visitors and residents alike can feel at ease.
