KINS holds workshop on nuclear power plant electrical system safety

The Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) said it held the 24th Workshop on Nuclear Power Plant Electrical System Safety Improvement on Wednesday and Thursday at the Utop Marina Hotel in Yeosu, with about 130 nuclear power plant electrical systems experts in attendance.

The workshop was organized to deepen participants' understanding of technical standards applied in the design, operation and regulation of nuclear electrical systems, and to facilitate the exchange of technical information on key safety improvement issues.

The event was structured around four sessions focusing on the latest technology trends and major issues in the nuclear power plant electrical systems field.

The first day featured 11 presentations and a general discussion covering three topics: trends in the application of new technologies and development of technical standards for nuclear power plant electrical systems; equipment qualification issues and safety improvement measures; and the current status of small modular reactor electrical system design and development. On Thursday, six presentations and a general discussion followed on the topic of facility improvements and operational experience in nuclear power plant electrical systems.

KINS President Lim Seung-cheol said the rapid pace of change in the nuclear technology environment has made safety verification of new technologies and regulatory response increasingly important. "I hope this will be a meaningful occasion to share expert insights on key issues in the nuclear power plant electrical systems field and to further expand mutual understanding and technical cooperation," he said.
